Connectivity problems

Bah, the network hub has started acting up (again), and I'm feeling the frustration of twiddling my thumbs while there is important work waiting for the Networking Gods to allow it to get to me.

Background: main work servers together with ~20 coworkers are on the 8th floor of Building A. My desk is in the almost-basement of Building B. Problem is that floors 7,8 and 9 of Building A are connected to the router responsible for the whole building with a single 10Mbps ethernet hub. And that hub provides network access to ~150 computers. Imagine the collisions! The congestion! Hell, even rush-hour traffic moves faster that those packets!
