Intellimouse & Logitech keyboard

Several months ago, I bought some extra nice peripherals for my computer at home, specifically a Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard and a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer version 4.0

From the IntelliMouse side, almost all functionality is working just fine. Not working is the second horizontal axis of the wheel; the wheel is also somewhat too hard to press for comfortable use in a Unix/Linux environment and middle-click has a very curious delay (about 200-300 ms) between pushing the button and the propagation of the event to the computer. This could be a driver issue, as there is no such delay on Windows.

I'm currently using it with X just fine (except the two issues I've mentioned) with the following configuration (not that the mouse has 9 actual keys, but only seven are actually useable from Linux):

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Configured Mouse"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "CorePointer"
        Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "Buttons" "9"
        Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

From the Logitech side, the extra keys work just fine on Linux, with just one major snag: the function keys are deactivated on bootup, and you have to press the F-lock key for them to become active, which is somewhat annoying if you use them at all, as the first key press will usually get lost. The keyboard has also a scollwheel which maps directly to the up and down arrow keys on Linux, but it is relatively sensitive and can be accidentally used as it is placed next to the tab key. I've been intending to create a map for the extra symbols, as they are reported as NoSumbol by X; nontheless, gnome-settings-daemon can use them just fine.

Of course, she wanted to clean up the keyboard and used acetone to wipe it, in the process ruining the plastic and making it look more dirty....
