Bandwidth, at last!
I'm working in the Aristotle University; while being techincally an external consultant on a contract, I have my own computer and desk. The last year or so the network bandwidth to external sites was a bit slow (to the extent that during peak hours speeds would drop below 4k/sec).
However it seems that either the AUTh NOC
or GRNET (the Greek Universities Backbone)
has upgraded the connectivity. This means that my apt-get
upgrade has shown me this:
Fetched 57.4MB in 11s (5088kB/s)
This is from a server that is 600 kilometers away!
I'm remembering the days when the university-wide uplink was upgraded from 9.6 kbps to 64 kbps and actual interactive usage became possible...
